Josh and I drove to Charleston from Chapel Hill while Ellen drove up from Tampa. We were going to spend some time with our neighbors as well as set up the Bridge photo exhibit at the Karpeles Museum. Here is the front of our home on Ashley Ave.
Then for a quick bridge fix. Driving toward the Ravenel Bridge
Across the main span
and over to the Motley Rice building - where we saw a freighter passing under the Ravenel Bridge
The clouds created interesting lighting effects on the bridge stay cables
This was taken from Mosquito-land.
Another close view
Josh found a bush with red sort-of-flowers. Lots of butterflies
You see that sort-of-tongue sticking out. I learned from a Google search that this is called a proposcis.
A closer view
Here, with wings unfolded,
Another Monarch butterfly
and another
Here, perched on the top is another, with her proboscis extended
and suddenly a brown butterfly was sitting upside down. Nice shadows
Here with her proboscis retracted
Closer
and here with it extended
A closer view
and from the top - a brown butterfly harvesting via his/her proboscis
