February 2, 2008:More practice with the tiny metallic flies

Though the monsoon season is supposed to stop on Chinese New Year - there are no signs that the thunderstorms are slowing down. The up side is that there are lots of opportunities to explore insects before, during and after rains. Though I have been returning to the same place for over a year, only recently did I notice these little metallic long legged flies. They are about 1 cm in length and quite colorful. Here are a few I took today. The biggest difference in my style is that I have mounted my flash on the side of the tripod via a gooseneck sort of thing. The off axis flash helps considerably to avoid bleaching the photo with harsh flash lights.

Also Larry caught me in action. Here is me with my rig.
