Usually when I visit Duke, I stay at the Millenium Hotel which is within walking distance of Duke. It is a pleasant walk because I can change my mind and walk towards Hillsboro Road. Along the way are plants and small insects and here is what I found
When I was a kid - picking honeysuckle and biting the end and sucking out the fluid was simply the greatest
but being stung by a bumble bee was not fun
A pink flower
and a white flower
and a pink and white flower
This grasshopper was resting on a blackberry stalk. I love the blackberries and blackberry pie - but the thorns (under the grasshopper) were no fun
There were many red ants poking around these little white flowers
Sometimes hunting in pairs
and sometimes alone
Digging into the flower - like hunting for buried treasure
Two can dig faster than one
Head down
and looking
A larger view
and a lightning bug also joined the hunt
and was quite the hunter
A sort-of yellow flower
and a dandelion
A few interesting flowers from the Duke Gardens: An inverted lily
and a pretty flower
